I first heard Elbow's music when I bought the Mercury Music Prize compilation CD in 2002 when I was obsessed with Zero 7's Destiny, and Guy Garvey's vocals teased my senses through the CD player as he sang 'Powder Blue'.
It wasn't until 2008 that the desire for Elbow became established when I stumbled across 'Bones of You' on the Annie Mac show on Radio 1 and it was 'Boom!', my heart got arrested.
But after I bought the album, The Seldom Seen Kid, I proper fell in love with 'Mirrorball'. What an epic ballad. The first throes of engagement in a relationship are explored as Guy makes a strong case for extended metaphors in songs.
I relish them all.
